There is a folk tale in Japan that every year on the night of the last day of the year, many foxes in the Kanto region gather at Ōji Inari Shrine in Tokyo, where the atmospheric ghost lights called "kitsunebi" produced by them are seen as a procession that night. The shrine is dedicated to "Inari", a popular deity associated with foxes, and the foxes living in the Kanto region are said to follow this shrine.
